How to Run Operations for Your TikTok Business

Social media is an amazing tool that can be used for a variety of purposes. Social started as a way to connect with family and friends but has turned into a method to create a business and make money. TikTok is one of the newer social platforms, but it’s taken the world by storm. Read on to find out how you can use this social media site to support your business!

The 101: What Really is TikTok for eCommerce? 

TikTok is a social media platform based on short 15-60 second videos (up to 3 minutes) with over 732 million users. The most popular types of videos are dance, comedy, and product reviews. 

Some people have the mindset that TikTok is an application made for children and young adults, however, Pew Research Center did a study that disputes this claim. They state that 48% of adults 18-29 years of age use TikTok. That being said, the percentage of adults that use TikTok after age 30 increasingly goes down – so before you dive head-on into starting your TikTok, it is important to know exactly who your target audience is and if TikTok is a beneficial platform to reach them. 

If TikTok is a hotspot for your target market, then it can help your business grow not only in online followers but also in sales. Adweek did a study and found that over half of its users buy products they see advertised. We recently outlined three DTC brands who benefited from TikTok:

  • Emme Essentials: This brand’s second-ever TikTok video, taking a look at small business work ethic, pushed enough visits to earn the couple $11,000 in one week — a 326% sales increase.
  • Truff: On Tumblr, Truff has over 140,000 followers, with 63.5 million views on the hashtag #Truff. That viral social media success is almost solely responsible for Truff escalating from startup to $20 million in revenue by 2020. They plan to continue their success on TikTok this year.
  • Daily Harvest: Daily Harvest boasts over 110,000 followers on TikTok alone, and it gains even more visibility when videos occasionally go viral, generating anywhere between 300,000-750,000+ views each.

So how can you manage your TikTok page so that you are getting the most views possible? After all, the more views you have, the more likely you are to make a sale. 

Here are 5 ways to make your TikTok page pop:

1. Be Quick to Hop on Trends

This is one of the most important tips for getting your videos seen by the maximum number of people. Staying current on trends will help your videos stand out before the market has been saturated by numerous amounts of others creating the same videos. A pro tip is to record and upload a trending video in one day – that’s how quickly trends can come and go. If you want to utilize TikTok to the best of its abilities, it is important to monitor the trends and spend some time on the app yourself. Don’t forget to think outside the box as well; just because a current trend may not directly apply to your business, doesn’t mean you can’t find a way to integrate it. Be creative and help your business stand out from the crowd!

2. Practice and Prepare

While you want to be quick on the trends, you also want to make sure that your videos are well made and have structure. If your video has sloppy transitions or no storyline it will be difficult for your audience to follow and it likely won’t do as well. Even though TikTok videos are short, they still need to have structure and be easily understandable. TikTok viewers love a video with transitions in it, but they can be difficult to master. Practice makes perfect, and you’ll want to practice before you start publishing videos for your business. This video is a great way to help get you started adding transitions to videos.

3. Tell Stories

Use your platform to tell stories. People love learning more about brands through videos. Share videos on how your products are made, who your employees are, what a day in the life of the owner looks like, the journey your products make before reaching your customers’ doorstep, community events you attend – the possibilities are really endless. This not only allows for your viewers to get to know more about your brand, but it also works as a content planning tool. Elicit feedback from your audience and use that to plan future videos. If you found that your viewers liked videos that let them get to know your employees, you could do a segment called, “Meet the Team Tuesday,” and post a new one every Tuesday.

Videos like this are a great way to educate about a certain field or industry while still being entertaining enough with the masses. 

4. Post Often

It’s a common fact that the more you post, the more likely your videos are to be seen. Thankfully, TikTok makes that easy since there are ever-evolving TikTok trends. It should never be difficult to find new things to post! According to Digital Marketer, you should post more than one time a day if you want to truly grow your presence. Another study showed that posting three or more times a day is guaranteed to grow your following. Just make sure that what you’re posting is quality; no one wants their feed saturated by unprofessional videos and that’s a good way to turn an audience off to your brand.

5. Don’t Give Up 

TikTok is just like any other social media platform – it may take you some time to learn the in’s and out’s. But the most important tip is to not give up. If your videos aren’t doing well, ask your followers what they would want to see or consider TikTok advertising. Continuously educate yourself on the app and the new incoming trends. Not all of your videos will be a huge trending success, so try not to get discouraged when you have a low-performing video.
