Are you having trouble getting your products in front of eBay buyers? Getting on eBay Guaranteed Delivery (eGD) will boost your visibility, as potential buyers filter by items that can be delivered within 3 days and increase conversions.
Online shopping appeals to customers for its convenience and speed. Amazon Prime blazed the trail for fast shipping programs, so when eBay launched their Guaranteed Delivery service in mid-2017, it was to the great delight of shoppers.
In this post, we’ll take a look at what eBay guaranteed delivery is and what are the benefits for you as sellers. Then, we’ll show you the easiest way to get on eGD. Let’s dive in.
What is eBay Guaranteed Delivery?
eBay Guaranteed Delivery ensures the buyer will receive an order by a specific date, to help customers shop with confidence. To get the full benefits of eGD, eBay sellers need to deliver items to buyers in 3 days or less. Although sellers will be eligible for the program if, with 4-day shipping, they won’t show up in the filter for “Guaranteed 3 day delivery.”
Why you should be on eBay Guaranteed Delivery
eBay Guaranteed Delivery gives you a competitive advantage over the competition. A simple search query could return hundreds of thousands of search results, pitting your listings against fierce competition. Getting on eBay Guaranteed Delivery means you’ll show up when buyers filter for fast shipping, and there will be less competition among the sellers in those search results.
Getting items to any buyer in 3 days or less can come as a challenge to most sellers. However, the benefits far outweigh the extra effort.
1) Stand out in the increasingly competitive eBay marketplace
Buyers can search for guaranteed delivery items by switching on the “Guaranteed 3 day delivery” option in the top right-hand corner. Buyers can choose between 1 day, 2 day, 3 day, and 4 day shipping. Offering these options means eligible listings will show up in more searches.
This makes your products far more visible in the crowded eBay marketplace and places you in a much better position than your competitors, because customers looking for a quick turnaround time will be able to find you.
2) Improve your conversion rate
Guaranteeing delivery reduces the risk of making the purchase for your customers. There’s no need to wonder when or if orders will arrive on time. This increases confidence in making a specific purchase (especially if it’s last minute) and in turn improves conversion rates. Our partners have already seen a 10% lift in sales once a listing is eBay Fast ‘N Free enabled, and we only expect this to grow.
Update: We’ve now seen conversions double for sellers since enabling eGD. For updated metrics, check out our eBay fulfillment page.
3) Give your buyers the best experience possible
In the past, buying on eBay often left shoppers in the dark about when their item would arrive. Depending on the seller and local fulfillment services, eBay’s estimated delivery dates could differ widely from the actual delivery.
eGD lets customers know the exact delivery time for their orders, and allow them to search for products based on their expected delivery date. This, coupled with seamless execution, gives your shoppers the best buyer experience and encourages positive reviews.
4) Translate your fast fulfillment to other channels
Offering fast shipping gets conversions, and you shouldn’t have to stop at one channel. If you can get on eBay Guaranteed Delivery, you can apply your processes to get on other fast shipping programs, get those fast shipping tags, and increase sales across platforms.
Tip: Deliverr provides 2-day and next day delivery for popular marketplaces like Walmart and Wish, and can help you get fast tags on your own Shopify or BigCommerce website.
The challenges of eBay Guaranteed Delivery
Although eBay Guaranteed Delivery can help sellers provide a better service and increase conversions on their eBay store, it can also create a number of challenges, especially when it comes to shipping.
Having to use multiple warehouses to meet demand on time further complicates your rate tables, and it could be months before you can tell if you’ve made a profit or not.
Fortunately for sellers, there is a simple, straightforward way to get on eBay Guaranteed Delivery. First, we’ll go over the steps to get on eGD, and then share the easiest way to succeed on eGD.
Handling time vs door-to-door for eBay Guaranteed Delivery
Sellers have two different guaranteed delivery options to choose from; a handling time option and a door-to-door option.
eBay handling time delivery option
To use this option, the seller prepares the order within eBay’s time requirements (usually one day or less), and eBay handles shipping. eBay will be responsible for calculating a delivery date for the buyer based on their experience and shipping data.
The eBay handling time option is good for small businesses that only have a few orders at a time and are self-fulfilling. eBay handles the majority of the logistics, setting the delivery date and covering shipping and return costs if an item arrives late (as long as you met the handling time requirement).
If you already have a quick turnaround process, this could be a great low-risk option to offer your customers, but severely limits your coverage. A seller using the handling time option is typically limited to a single warehouse and must ship using eBay’s rates, which means items will not be able to reach everywhere in the USA within 3 days.
eBay door-to-door delivery
“The door-to-door guarantee is a version of Guaranteed Delivery for large sellers with multi-location warehouses. Sellers in this version of the program guarantee their own delivery dates based on their ability to deliver to various regions.” – eBay Guaranteed Delivery
Door-to-door is more desirable for power sellers who can leverage multiple warehouses through their own network or a 3PL. This option allows sellers to offer more coverage and faster delivery times than sellers on the handling time option. When done well, it’s also the more cost-effective option.
With door-to-door, sellers are responsible for calculating delivery dates and ensuring items arrive on time.
This is best for large businesses with high order volumes and plenty of shipping experience, or a seller using an experienced logistics service because you need a clear understanding of exact shipping times to different areas.
In this scenario, if a Guaranteed Delivery order is delayed and doesn’t make it to the customer on time, buyers can keep the product and get a refund on their shipping, or return the product with a full refund (and a free shipping label) as per eBay late shipping policy. Since your company would be predicting the delivery date, you will be responsible for handling returns and paying for late shipping fees.
A step-by-step guide to getting on eBay Guaranteed Delivery
Step 1: Opt-in by heading over to the eBay Guaranteed Delivery page (or any eBay page) and clicking on your account in the top left-hand corner.
Step 2: From the drop down menu, select “account settings.” Next, click on “site preferences” in the menu on the left-hand side.
Step 3: Scroll down to “eBay guaranteed delivery setting” and click edit. If you can’t find it in your settings, you probably don’t qualify for eGD right now.
You’ll see two options; handling time and door-to-door.
We recommend door-to-door, since it can save costs when done well. This option is best for large businesses with high order volumes.
Step 4: Select the one that’s right for your business and hit “continue.” Depending on which option you picked, eBay will walk you through the steps you need to take to get your products listed on eBay online.
You can set up product listings in three ways.
- Bulk listings: Select a lot of listings at the same time
- Business policies: Update your payment, returns and shipping policies
- Single listing: Edit one listing at a time
To set up the handling option, you just need to select a handling time of 1 day or less. Setting up the door-to-door option is a little bit more complicated but it’s perfect for larger businesses.
To start, you need to create a rate table. A rate table is a way to set your shipping costs based on regions so buyers can get an accurate idea of how long it would take to get that item they ordered delivered straight to their doorstep. Once your rate table is ready to go, set up your product listings in the three ways we discussed above.

In order to qualify for the guaranteed delivery program and then selling on eBay, you need to:
- Have a high performance score
- Use an eligible delivery service or use a 3PL that does
- Accept returns
- Require immediate payment
The easiest way to get on eBay Guaranteed Delivery

Here are 3 ways Deliverr eliminates headaches for sellers who want to succeed on eGD.
- Deliverr automatically manages and creates rate tables, so that buyers see accurate delivery dates based on where the inventory is.
- Deliverr ensures all orders meet the promised delivery date, and also tracking numbers are updated in time for complete clarity all around.
- Deliverr complies with special branding and shipping requirements, at a price that helps keep your margins healthy.
Services like Deliverr ensure your packages ship to your customers within a certain shipping time frame, and keeps all of your marketplaces (like eBay) systems synced up. However, it comes with unique challenges, and if poorly managed can eat into your profits. eBay Guaranteed Delivery FAQs
The aim of eBay Guaranteed Delivery is to provide shoppers with faster, more precise delivery dates, and the ability to shop with confidence. However, what does this service actually mean for customers? Let’s delve a little deeper into this recent eBay addition with the most common eBay Guaranteed Delivery FAQs we’ve seen.
1. What exactly is eBay Guaranteed Delivery (eGD)?
eBay Guaranteed Delivery is eBay’s fast shipping program, similar to Amazon Prime and Walmart Free 2-Day Shipping. It ensures delivery and allows sellers to commit to a specific delivery period, spanning from 1- to 4-day shipping.
Sellers have two options; Handling and Door-to-Door.
- If you select the handling time option, eBay will calculate delivery dates and handle refunds and returns as long as you prepare the order within one day, use an eligible carrier service, and add eBay labels to ensure tracking. This is more convenient, but comes with less opportunity, since not all carriers will be able to qualify your items for eGD, and some of your listings won’t get fast shipping tags.
- The door-to-door option gives sellers more control and responsibility. You are responsible for determining your own delivery dates, and ensuring items are delivered on time. Although you’ll be responsible for returns and refunds if an item is late, you can also ensure all of your listings get fast shipping tags, which help boost conversions.
2. How much does eBay Guaranteed Delivery cost?
There is no additional cost for opting into eBay Guaranteed Delivery for your items. To figure out how much fast shipping for your items is, work with your fulfillment provider to calculate your costs.
Tip: Use our fulfillment cost calculator and see how much you would pay for 2- and 3-day shipping
3. Which items are eligible for Guaranteed Delivery on eBay?
Currently, this service is only available in the United States. According to eBay, over 20 million items are eligible for Guaranteed Delivery. Sellers in the US are responsible for setting the rates and speeds of shipping per region.
Note for Deliverr clients: All items fulfilled by Deliverr are eligible for eBay Guaranteed Delivery if you opt in via our seller portal.
Listings must meet the following requirements to display eGD fast shipping tags to buyers:
- Set same-day or 1-day handling time.
- Use eligible carrier services.
- Add a postal code to your item location.
Tip: Use the Guaranteed Delivery bulk editing tool to see which of your listings meet the requirements.
4. How do I opt in to eBay Guaranteed Delivery?
If you fulfill with Deliverr, we can whitelist sellers so you don’t have to meet the criteria below. Just go into the fast tags section in your Deliverr dashboard to activate it.

If you don’t fulfill with Deliverr, only sellers who have at least 100 annual eBay transactions and a late shipment rate of 5% or less are eligible.
To get your items listed with eGD in the door-to-door option, navigate to Account Settings > Site Preferences > eBay Guaranteed Delivery Setting. Click “Show,” then “Edit”. In the opt in screen, click “Learn More” and select “Door-To-Door Guarantee.” Lastly, click “Count Me In.”
After opting in, you’ll need to create rate tables to set your regional shipping speed and costs. You will also need to activate your listings using the bulk editing tool.
To activate eGD with the handling time option, you must list your items with same or 1-day handling, an item location postal code, and use eligible carrier services. eBay will then determine which items are eligible for eGD based on shopper location.
Once you’re on eGD, you must meet the following performance requirements to stay eligible;
- A minimum of 97% on-time handling on Guaranteed Delivery transactions.
- A minimum of 95% on-time tracking upload on Guaranteed Delivery transactions.
5. How do I opt out of eBay Guaranteed Delivery?
Opt out of eBay Guaranteed Delivery at any time by navigating to Account Settings > Site Preferences > eBay Guaranteed Delivery Setting. Click “Show,” then “Edit”. Lastly, select “I want to opt out of eBay Guaranteed Delivery,” and click “Continue.” According to eBay, you may opt back in at any time.
6. When does the Guaranteed Delivery period begin?
Once a customer has proceeded to checkout and payment clears, the clock starts ticking for the seller. You must ship orders within one business day at the latest to be eligible for the handling time option.
If you’re doing door-to-door, your responsibility is the date the package arrives instead, so it’s best to concern yourself with the overall shipping process instead of when the timer starts.
7. What happens if your eBay Guaranteed Delivery item is late?
Even with eBay’s Guaranteed Delivery, things can go wrong. If an item is late, your responsibility will differ based on which option you selected, and the compensation option the buyer chose.
Buyer options for late delivery:
|Seller responsibility if door-to-door commitment or handing time not met or eBay shipping label not used in case of handling time commitment:||Seller responsibility if handling time commitment met:|
|Return the item (If seller offers returns)||Refund for item price and any outbound and return shipping costs||Refund for item price. eBay to cover outbound and return shipping costs|
|Keep the item if shipping fee paid||Refund the shipping cost||None - eBay to refund shipping cost|
|Keep the item if free shipping||None - eBay to issue a voucher towards next purchase||None - eBay to issue a voucher towards next purchase|

8. What happens when a buyer makes an eBay Guaranteed Delivery claim?
In order to make a claim, the buyer must let eBay know within 30 days of the original guaranteed delivery date.
The buyer can contact eBay in two ways:
- Using the order email – under Guaranteed Delivery information, buyers can select Let us know. This will open the order details page, where it will be possible to Report delivery issue.
- My eBay – When logged in, navigate to Purchase History. Using the drop-down menu, search for More Actions to find the Report late delivery option.
Once here, buyers can choose from the applicable forms of compensation:
- Get a refund on the shipping costs, if shipping was paid for.
- If shipping was free, the buyer may be entitled to a voucher for use on a future eBay purchase.
- Buyers can return the item for free for a full refund (if the listing offers returns).
- eBay will let the seller know that the buyer didn’t receive their item.
The request is processed by eBay immediately, and if a voucher was awarded, it will be available on the buyer account at checkout.
Overall, eBay Guaranteed Delivery is an efficient and reliable way to increase sales and keep customers happy. However, there will be penalties if you fail to meet performance requirements, so sellers shouldn’t opt-in to this service unless they are certain they can deliver. eGD ultimately allows customers to shop with more confidence and reassurance, which will boost your listings’ conversion rates.
